Server: trackers.moongpstracker.com (169.58.68.140), TCP. Some firmware refuses domain names — then use the IP.

What it is

JT/T 808 is the Chinese national standard for vehicle terminals, often called Huabao after the transport ministry specification. It is what most Chinese fleet cameras, dashcams and MDVRs speak, alongside a large number of plain trackers.

Unlike the SMS-configured trackers on the other pages, JT808 devices almost always have a configuration menu on the device, in a manufacturer app, or in a Windows tool. That is where the server goes.

What you need

  • Access to the device menu, the manufacturer app, or the vendor's configuration tool
  • A data SIM in the device with a working APN
  • The device or terminal ID, which is what the platform identifies it by

APN examples

The APN belongs to the SIM, not to the tracker. These are the two we use ourselves:

  • 1NCE: iot.1nce.net
  • Truphone: iot.truphone.com

On both, the APN username and password are empty — which is the usual case on IoT SIMs. If your SIM comes from a mobile operator, ask them for all three values.

What to enter in the device

There is no SMS command to copy here. In the device configuration, set the main server to the address below and the port to 5015, leave the protocol on TCP, and save.

If the configuration tool refuses hostnames — some vendor tools only accept an IP field — use 169.58.68.140 instead. It is the same host.

5015

TCP. Leave any "domain / IP" switch consistent with what you entered above.

After the device is configured it turns up in Unknown devices in the Moon panel — or straight on your map, if you registered its identifier first. The first position normally lands within minutes.

What Moon shows you

  • Live position, speed and full trip history with stops and addresses
  • Alarms raised by the terminal, as events on the vehicle
  • Ignition and the inputs the terminal reports, where the installation provides them

What it does not do

  • Video does not go through Moon. Footage, live view and playback stay on the manufacturer's own platform or on the device storage — we receive the position and alarm stream, not the media stream. Anyone telling you otherwise about a JT808 camera on a generic platform is guessing.

Which values arrive depends on the device and the installation, never on your licence: every Moon account has the whole platform. See what the platform does.

Gotchas

The things that cost us time on real vehicles, written down so they do not cost you any.

Video and tracking are two different systems

Fleet cameras sold as "GPS + dashcam" carry two independent streams. Moon takes the JT808 position and alarm stream on port 5015. The video stays where the manufacturer put it. If your operation depends on pulling footage, keep the vendor platform for that and use Moon for the fleet.

Terminal ID, not IMEI

JT808 devices identify themselves by a terminal ID or phone number field configured in the device, which is often not the IMEI. When the device shows up in Unknown devices, register it under the identifier it announces, not the one on the label.

Vendor tools vary more than the protocol

The protocol is a national standard; the configuration software is not. Field names differ ("main server", "central platform", "IP domain"), and some tools require the port and the address in separate fields. If you are unsure which field is which, send us a screenshot of the menu and we will point at the right one.

JT808 trackers, cameras and dashcams: questions we get asked

Can I see the camera footage in Moon?
No. Moon receives the JT808 position and alarm stream on port 5015; video stays on the manufacturer platform or on the device. We say so plainly because it is the question that decides whether this hardware fits your operation.
My tool will not accept a hostname.
Use 169.58.68.140 with port 5015. It is the address behind trackers.moongpstracker.com and is published in public DNS.
The device is online but Moon shows nothing.
Check whether the terminal is configured for a "main server" and a "backup server" separately — some devices need the main one changed, not the backup. Then look in Unknown devices for the terminal ID rather than the IMEI.
Which JT808 devices do you support?
The port is open and the protocol is standard, so most JT/T 808 terminals report without special work. Send us the make and model: if yours turns out to need something specific we will test it with you rather than let you find out in the field.

Two ways to go from here

Send the commands yourself and register the device in the panel, or tell us what you have and we will confirm what it can do on Moon before you commit to anything.

No account yet? Send us the make and model and we will set the device up on a demo account for you.

Not sure it is the right model? Send it to support@moongpstracker.com and we will tell you before you buy.
