GPS tracking for e-bike fleets

E-bikes are the hardest vehicles in a shared fleet to keep track of: small, easy to move, easy to take indoors, and spread across sites you do not control. Here is what changes when they are on Moon.

Problem

A tracker nobody has to remember to charge

An e-bike already carries a battery, and that is what the tracker runs on. No separate charging routine, no device that goes dark three weeks after it is fitted because someone stopped topping it up. The platform tells you the external and internal battery voltage the tracker reports, so a bike whose supply has been cut — or whose battery has been removed — shows up as a problem rather than as silence.

An e-bike has nowhere obvious to put a tracker, which is the point: a device that is visible is a device that gets removed. A compact wired tracker can go out of sight, and the mounting position is decided with the frame in front of you. The platform side is identical whatever is fitted — around 200 protocols are supported, so the hardware decision stays a hardware decision.

Urban theft, where the bike moves fast and stops indoors

Stolen e-bikes travel a short distance and then go inside somewhere. Live position plus the full trip history is what makes them recoverable: the route shows where it went, the stop list shows where it settled, and the address of each stop is there without cross-referencing a map. A public share link puts that live position in front of the police without giving them an account.

Bikes on loan to businesses and branches

Fleets rarely sit in one place: bikes go out to franchisees, to partner businesses, to sites on long-term loan. A company in Moon can contain other companies, several levels deep, so whoever is holding the bikes gets an account that shows only their bikes, while you keep the whole fleet in one view.

Servicing a fleet where every bike does different distance

Distance comes from the tracker, so a bike that did 900 km last month is serviced before one that did 60. Each bike keeps its own record of work done, and a scheduled report drops the week's distance per bike into the workshop's inbox. On a shared fleet this is the only reliable way to know which bikes are actually being used.

Bikes leaving the area they are meant to serve

Draw the operating area once. A bike crossing out of it raises an alert, whether that is a theft in progress or a rider taking a fleet bike home. The same zones make the map readable: which bikes are at which site, right now, without counting markers.

The hardware

For single bikes and small fleets we sell the Moon Tracker for e-bikes and motorbikes, wired to the vehicle battery. For larger fleets the hardware choice is made per fleet — including keeping whatever is already fitted.

Questions e-bike fleet operators ask

Do the trackers drain the bike battery?
The tracker draws a small, continuous current from the vehicle supply. It is designed to sit on a bike that is charged as part of normal operation; the platform reports the supply voltage it sees, so a bike that is being left flat is visible before it becomes a dead bike.
Can we use the trackers we already have on our bikes?
In most cases yes. Around 200 tracker protocols are supported, including Teltonika, Concox/GT06, Queclink, Sinotrack, h02 and tk103. Send us the make and model and we will confirm before you commit to anything.
What does it cost for a fleet of e-bikes?
£19.99 per vehicle per year (€22.99), sold in packs of 10 licences, with every platform feature included. There is no separate price for bikes: a bike is a vehicle.
